About me

My name is Alison Ludlow and www.artspot.org.uk is the place I exhibit my work, although I do exhibit elsewhere from time to time. I graduated from Newport Art College, in South Wales, in 1989, and have been involved in art more or less continuously since then. Until recently I taught life drawing and painting for Newport's Adult Education service, but have now decided to concentrate on my art, particularly murals, full-time.

Since the late 1990's I have been painting murals for schools, private individuals and others and have completed more than 20 murals to date. I enjoy the scale and the freedom that working on this scale gives, my largest mural to date being 28 feet (8.5m) long. I use a variety of methods and approaches, depending upon the brief, and generally work in acrylics with emulsion for the larger areas of flat colour.

I have built up a lot of experience of painting all types of mural and particularly enjoy trompe l'oeil where required. I generally paint the murals straight onto walls (I can advise on any wall preparation required), but also paint them onto board or canvas. Board or canvas fixed to a wall are good options if you wish to be able to move the mural at a later date, or if it is not feasible for me to carry out the work on site.

I have either attended or taught life drawing classes since the age of 16 and enjoy working in most media. The discipline of life drawing is central to my approach as a muralist.
